first ever reply from my new laptop! <3

She made a bit of a face in response to his small smile, and some of the things he said, though which one in particular it was that sent her over the edge into quietly proud defensiveness he would have to guess. She ducked her head to brush some hair back behind one ear, a purposeless gesture that only served to convey annoyance by her well-placed graceful flick of motion.

Lyra wrote home at least twice a week - sometimes as often as three times. Draco might have ignored every other letter (and perhaps no one but his sister could have blamed him for that) but their father had responded to every last one in a timely manner and wrote nothing to convey what she was doing was unwanted or unusual.

Then again it rarely occurred to Lyra to ever think something she had done might be unwanted or unusual. Such as being on kind speaking terms with certain Hogwarts professors.

"Well," she began with an attempt to upturn her nose (that was not quite successful - that particular feature she had inherited from their mother, and in absence of the longer pointed Roman features to her profile that the other born Malfoy members of the family head that look simply didn't take as well to her young face), as she cast about for something to say in response, "if you must know, the way Professor Hagrid said it, it was almost more like a joke. But he often sounds that way, when he talks about our family." She felt somewhat too conflicted to finish the thought she was having out loud: that Hagrid did not seem to like the family very much, and seemed to find it a source of amusement that he and Lyra were able to get on at all.

She was easily distracted from it anyway. "Tea sounds very nice, thanks," she replied almost primly. "You're not in very much of a hurry, are you."
